What do I need to know?
In response to the final report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, the Australian Government will create a single Support at Home Program that will replace the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), the Home Care Packages (HCP) Program, Short-Term Restorative Care Programme (STRC), and residential respite programs.
From July 2023, the new program will focus on better-targeted individual support plans based on the senior’s aged care needs and personal circumstances. For many senior Australians, this will mean that they are more likely to remain living safely and independently in the comfort of their own homes for as long as they can.
The Support at Home Program will use a single assessment process and assessment team to better match services to a person’s support needs and will be used to determine the different types of services and care that an older person will need in their present ageing journey and over time as their needs change.
As a current Aged Care Home Provider, BCD is staying abreast of the departments’ updates so we can better guide our customers, their families, carers, and our partners as we move into the new reform program. BCD want our customers to feel minimal impact on services they already receive and for them to continue to feel involved in the decision making process. We are also encouraging our customers and partners to read the overview summary of the Support at Home Program so we can transition together and remain informed as the age care industry responds to the reform program rollout.
