Supporting Those Who Care: How BCD Prioritises Employee Wellbeing

Reading time: 2 mins

Working in care services is one of the most demanding yet deeply rewarding professions. Every day, our team at BCD provides essential care, companionship, and support to older people and those living with disabilities.

With over 150 dedicated care workers providing care services across Fairfield, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly, Wingecarribee and Goulbourn communities.

At BCD, we know that to deliver the best care, our team members need to feel supported, valued, and empowered in
their own wellbeing.

Ensuring that our care workers feel their best is the basis for ongoing safe and caring customer services. We knew we had good staff retention and positive anecdotal feedback that our team was happy and well supported, but we wanted to dig deeper. We wanted some clear insights on what we were doing well and where we could also improve.

That’s why BCD recently partnered with Leading Well and conducted a comprehensive wellbeing assessment using their Well@Work Enterprise Assessment Tool to gain deeper insights aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of our care workforce, ensuring they have the resources, support, and balance needed to continue their vital work.

This assessment not only helped us understand key strengths and areas for improvement, but also ensured we are meeting best-practice standards and compliance with SafeWork Australia psychosocial legislation - reinforcing our commitment to a safe and supportive workplace.

The results revealed impressive strengths in our workplace culture and key areas for improvement, helping us shape a more effective approach to employee wellbeing.

Key Indicators: A High-Performing Team with Opportunities to Grow

The assessment revealed a high-performing team that is deeply committed to their work, with some standout findings:

  • High levels of performance and wellbeing across BCD

  • All measures of Psychological Safety, Leadership and Health Dynamics also measured as ‘Enabling’ across all levels of our organisation.

  • Positive feedback reflected directly from team members who responded

At the same time, it identified opportunities to further enhance employee wellbeing and support, ensuring we continue to create the best possible workplace for our team.
