Creating a Supportive Workplace: Insights from Our Workforce Wellbeing Assessment

Reading time: 2 mins

At Better Care Delivered, we recognise that delivering exceptional care starts with fostering a supportive workplace.

With over 150 dedicated care workers providing care services across Fairfield, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly, Wingecarribee and Goulbourn communities, we know that to deliver the best care, our team members need to feel connected and empowered in their own wellbeing wherever they are working.

BCD Leadership Team & Board Reviewing Case Study Findings

Ensuring that our care workers feel their best is the basis for ongoing safe and caring customer services. We knew we had good staff retention and positive anecdotal feedback that our team was happy and well supported, but we wanted to dig deeper. We wanted some clear insights on what we were doing well and where we could also improve.

That’s why, we recently conducted a comprehensive workforce wellbeing assessment, partnering with Leading Well and using their Well@Work Enterprise Assessment Tool to gain deeper insights into how well we are supporting our team and where we can improve.

This assessment not only helped us understand key strengths but also highlighted areas for improvement, and ensured we are meeting SafeWork Australia psychosocial legislative requirements, reinforcing our commitment to a safe and supportive workplace.

A Data-Driven Approach to Driving Psychosocial Safety

The results of the assessment highlighted some standout findings and opportunities to further enhance workforce wellbeing. Key findings included:

  • High levels of performance and wellbeing across the BCD team.

  • ‘Belonging’ identified as a core focus area. With many of our team working independently in customer’s homes, fostering a sense of connection is essential.

  • All measures of Psychological Safety, Leadership and Health Dynamics also measured as ‘Enabling’ across all levels of our organisation.

  • Positive feedback was reflected directly from team members who responded.

These insights will enable us to continuously enhance our workplace environment by driving initiatives that focus on strengthening employee wellbeing while maintaining the highest standards of compliance.

Leadership Commitment to Best Practice

When the results came in, we were keen to sit down and understand where we stood. This was not just about acknowledging our strengths but identifying opportunities to push the boundaries of excellence.

Next Steps: Building a Strong Foundation and Growth Framework

As a result of these findings, we have implemented four action items to further support our employees with belonging as the central theme. Key highlights include:

  • 1. Reaffirming our commitment to continuous improvement, we actively engage our leadership team and board members to drive positive change, ensuring that employee wellbeing remains a core focus at every level of our organisation.

  • 2. Organising focus groups to involve employees in co-shaping solutions.

  • 3. Enhancing communication of key results and reinforcing the value we place on team feedback.

  • 4. Developing strategic plans to strengthen team connections across remote work settings.

These initiatives are designed to enhance the employee experience and uphold the highest standards of aged care and disability support service delivery.

A truly supportive workplace goes beyond meeting regulatory requirements, it fosters a culture where employees feel valued, heard, and supported to succeed in their roles.

By prioritising wellbeing, professional development, and a sense of belonging and connection, we are creating a workplace that not only meets industry standards but also empowers our team to deliver the highest quality care.
