Care Worker: Hung
Services: Social & Community Access

Quoc is an active man that enjoys socializing with friends and attending weekly Tai Chi classes at the local community club. When covid-19 impacted the world and the closing of activities were announced, Quoc felt socially isolated with the thought of staying home and not being able to do the things that he enjoys. Quoc’s carer expressed her concerns with the impact this would have on his mental health and physical well being if he were to unable to continue with his daily and weekly activities.

BCD’s Care worker ensured that Quoc would remain during what he enjoyed in the comfort of his own home and was able to bring the community connection and a sense of belonging into the home for Quoc through lessons online whilst staying safe and looking after his physical and mental well being.

Quoc has now returned to face to face weekly Tai Chi lessons and continues to master the art of his practice.

Care Worker: Randall Jackson
Services: Social and Community Access

There’s no better feeling than getting outside in the sun and soil, to build you own herb garden to improve your overall physical and mental well-being. This is the feels and experience on a service with Joshua’s care worker Randall.
Joshua loves to be actively social at home and in the community. On a service with his care worker he didn’t let his vision impairment hold him back from building a herb garden bed from scratch. They ended up with some rosemary, coriander, oregano, chives, sage and parsley. The next challenge will be to add this garden and include some root vegetables.
It was a beautiful spring day and Joshua cannot wait to watch it grow as he also bastes in the warmth of the morning and evening sun enjoying a cuppa.

Care Worker: BCD
Services: Yard Maintenance

Terry is a gentle soul living with his wife in their home. They have five beautiful children between them whom they connect with often via Facebook. Despite his age and health challenges Terry wants to be able to remain living in his home with his wife enjoying their time together and getting the assistance to do small task around the home. Terry enjoys being in the kitchen and cooking roast and bakes in his Bosch Oven. With family living interstate and overseas Terry has been able to continue to build and maintain some capacity in assisting with household task with the support from care workers.

The one thing that Terry feels most happy and joy about is the yard services he receives as an old time favourite thing that him and his wife love doing is sitting on the deck that oversees their garden and watching the different types of plants grow throughout the different seasons of the year as they also grow old with each other.

Rhonda attends Acoustic Target Shooting at Cecil Park most weeks – and is supported by BCD to do this. The sport is solely for the Blind/Vision Impaired and works totally on sound. The shooter wear a head-set that is connected to a special scope which signals an increasing tone when they are targeting the bullseye.

Rhonda enjoys target shooting immensely – and has become an expert markswoman. She regularly scores 389+ /400 – using an inferior scope and air rifle. The sport has just been accepted into the Paralympic sports for Tokyo and Rhonda now has her sights (so to speak) set on going to the Olympics! However, to attain her goal – she needed to purchase better equipment, which was expensive and beyond her means.

To help Rhonda reach new heights – BCD worked with her to arrange a fundraising event- a Trivia night! After 5 months of intense planning, the Trivia night was held and rasied just over $10,000!! There was a lot of hard work behind the scenes – but we coudln’t have been prouder of Rhonda and her enthusiasm and drive for the sport.

Rhonda was thrilled with the outcome from the Trivia night – and now has her new scope and can’t wait for a new rifle that is being made and shipped all the way from Germany.

Good luck with your next goal Rhonda!

As a part of personal growth goals, we have been working towards getting her hair washed and cut at the hairdressers.

We helped Sophey build confidence through regular ‘visits’ with an understanding hairdresser. And eventually, Sophey was able to overcome her fears – and have her first real hair appointment and have her hair washed and brushed.

Sophey was very happy with the result – and so were we! We were thrilled to help Sophey through this journey.
